India’s international home season for 2021-22 will kick off with a three-match T20I series against New Zealand on November 17 in Jaipur. This series will mark the start of a new era, following Virat Kohli’s decision to relinquish T20I captaincy post the World Cup, that ends on November 14.
It will be followed by two Test matches against the current World Test champions in Kanpur and Mumbai. This will be New Zealand’s first Test tour of India since 2016, when they lost 3-0.
India will play another two Test matches against Sri Lanka later in the season, in Bengaluru (March 1-5) and in Mohali (March 9-13). It will be followed by a three-match T20I series across Mohali, Dharamsala and Lucknow.
Between the visits by New Zealand (in November-December) and Sri Lanka (in February-March), India will travel to South Africa for a full tour (December 17 – January 26) and then return home to host the West Indies for three ODIs and three T20Is, starting February 6.
The seven-month international home season ends with a five-match T20I series against South Africa which will be played on the back of the Indian Premier League and serve as a preparation for the T20 World Cup later in the year in Australia.
“The 2021-22 home season holds a lot of promise, and Team India will play in all major centres of India,” said BCCI secretary Jay Shah. “Vaccination has ensured that the pandemic curve is beginning to flatten, and I am very optimistic that we will have the fans back for the home season.
“Our season will comprise four Tests, which are part of the WTC cycle, three ODIs and 14 T20Is between November to June 2022,” he said.
