Twitter account of Indian Council of World Affairs compromised

The Twitter account of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) was briefly hacked on Sunday. The alleged hackers renamed the handle as ‘Elon Musk’.

Some tweets were posted promoting cryptocurrency, similar to what was seen during when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s account was hacked..

Sources say that this could be a result of the password being compromised or a malicious link having been clicked by the handlers of the account.

The malicious tweets are now taken down and the Twitter handle’s name has been restored.

The ICWA is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ and has the Vice-President as the ex-officio president.

The personal Twitter handle of PM Modi was briefly hacked on December 12. While the account was restored shortly after, a tweet promoting cryptocurrency had already been shared from the handle and was later deleted.
