The Howrah district administration has promulgated Section 144 CrPC with suspension of internet services in parts of the district apprehending trouble following protest
demonstrations, which turned violent on Friday.
The protesters opposing remarks of a BJP leader staged demonstrations in parts of Howrah district
on Thursday and Friday blocking road and rail services.
The protest demonstrations went violent on Friday and the agitators clashed with police and set fire on kiosks and vehicles in which many police personnel were wounded.
” Whereas information has been received from credible sources that violent agitations and road blockades are likely to take place in and around the stretches of the NH and railway stations under
jurisdiction of Uluberia subdivision, resulting in largescale disturbances of the public tranquility and breach of the peace,” SDM ,Uluberia Samik Kumar Ghosh said in a notification.
Therefore the Section 144 Cr PC has been clamped between June 10 to June 15, the notification said.
The internet services were also temporarily suspended in the rural parts of Howrah district to rein in the unrest which continued in some pockets of the district since Thursday.
