Clerk robbed at gunpoint, tied up at railway station in Tamil Nadu

Arailway ticket clerk was threatened with a gun, robbed and left with limbs tied in Tamil Nadu. The incident took place at a busy railway station in Chennai on Monday.

According to police sources, Tikka Ram who was on the early morning shift at Thiruvanmiyur railway station had opened the ticket counter around 4.30 am when a man wearing a mask approached the counter seeking a ticket to Beach station.

When Tikka Ram was busy giving the person a ticket, he saw a man inside the ticket counter where only staff are allowed. Before Tikka Ram could react, the perpetrator pulled out a gun.

Three men wearing masks then took Rs 1.32 lakh from the counter and left Tikka Ram with his hands and legs tied.

A passenger who went in to get a ticket rescued Tikka Ram and alerted the cops. Railway Police Force (RPF) officials who reached the spot have initiated an investigation.

“We are gathering evidence now. We’ll release a press statement soon”, stated Saurav Kumar, Assistant Deputy Commissioner.

The busy station lacked CCTV at the entrance and exit points which the perpetrators seemed to have known. The incident has raised questions about the lack of safety measures.

Further investigation is underway.
