The high court has quashed a vigilance case against former DGP Jacob Thomas that alleged irregularities in purchasing a dredger while he was director of ports.
Considering a petition by the former IPS officer, Justice R Narayana Pisharadi held that vigilance’s contention that irregularities occurred in the purchase of dredger worth Rs 14.96 crore is not sustainable. The case relates to the period between 2009 and 2014 when the petitioner had served as director of ports.
The court also said it was a joint decision and only one person cannot be held responsible for the purchase decision. Nobody else in the purchasing committee has been named as an accused, the court pointed out while quashing the case under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
